The Manaslu Circuit Trek is the best all round tea-house hike in Nepal on the Great Himalaya Trail; the new Annapurna Circuit. No camping needed.

Manaslu Road Building… the hunt for alternative trails

Sonam Lama from Tsum is heading home with a small team to look at the status of the trail on the east side of the Budhi Gandaki river. The smiling team is here.

Here’s what he said just before leaving.

As you might be aware, the beginning of the Manaslu circuit trek, trekkers suffer from the road construction And this will continue for years. Few trekkers want to come to Nepal to trek on dusty roads and hear road construction blasting noises instead of enjoying a peaceful and beautiful foot trail.

We are leaving tomorrow to assess the facilities en route and trail conditions for trekkers on the Manaslu route starting Phulkharka, Dhading. The task will be to start journey from Kathmandu to Phulkharka by jeep, start trekking at Manbu, Kasigaun, Keraunja, Runchet, Hulchok, Dovan. From Dovan onwards, the trail connects to the existing Manaslu and Tsum Valley trail.

This higher route offers panoramic views of Ganesh, Sringi and Manaslu Himalayan ranges with experiences of Gurung and Ghale settlement dating back to centuries.

Tsum Valley Home stay is a local based company collaborating with local guides from Tsum valley for this initiative. Sonam Lama is leading the initiative. He led many exploration treks in the past such as the Tsum valley exploration trek 2008.

The initiative is to promote alternative trekking trails and to alert people to the negative consequences from the road construction in the major foot trail.

Here’s a rough map of where the trail goes. Stay tuned for a report of the conditions of hotels and the trails from this side! Would sure be a beautiful and much more cultural start to the Manaslu Circuit Trek!

We are hoping to go to Manaslu circuit in Novembe4, is the alternate trail feasible? How were trail conditions and accommodations?

How did you go. I’d like to leave from as close to gorkha as i can or even from gorkha itself. And try also to see as few roads as possible once down the trail. I’ll dump the tsum valley part and pick up elsewhere if i can.
